![]() I think you took it personally when it was a general observation. Recognizing messed up thinking is great, but the zen family and dogs are better joined through feeling than thinking. Watching the zen characters is no more mental than watching dogs has to be. I'm as silly as the next guy though, having wasted my life contemplating mostly mental stuff. Its the only way for this family to rub off on us by osmosis. But its up to us to be able to tell the difference. Lets not let the academics and churches get away with claiming their interpretations are where its at, thinking they dodged the knife. Time passed, and the stories have come alive now again for a new generation. They were chewing the chewed at that point. Those who "continued" did not continue at all. It had to be left alone, it had become toxic. Once the ways of the zen characters was formulated, it was over. Within a generations of Dahui and Yuanwu laying the stage for koan practice and then pulling out the rug, zen went underground. Developing (through contemplation) conceptual systems is a challenge many enjoy, it can be fun for a while, but its also exhausting, especially in the long run. Never did whole tons of people ever wake up all at once, in fact, the number in the zen cases is in the dozens more than in the thousands.īut the physical gestures and the use of words as pointing devices, damn, I find that so refreshing and really exciting! The world is the reference, no principles necessary. "new educational", well, I would call it something else in the hope that it pointed toward what the zen family was actually doing, but it wasn't "educational" per se, nor was it really all that new, if you look around, but it certainly, in my opinion, was creative in the context of communities of monks. ![]() Maybe it's a creative teachers duty to invent new educational communication channels. When people are outside of the zen family, why do they think they can guess? Why do they want to think their own way of saving all beings is worth hanging on to and evangelizing? Why do they think the zen characters would not throw it away like a dirty rag? There are things the zen characters themselves don't talk about much, to the chagrin of the faithful. If one is going to hide it from others, how much more are they going to hide it from themselves? But it still shows through to those who can see. Add on a dollop of compassion here, a dollop of reasonable there. And then people start managing their image, get crafty. We show ourselves when we don't think we are showing ourselves. "When you want to sleep, you sleep when you want to sit, you sit." Well, I cannot expound the dharma of inanimate things to these people, no matter who reproaches me.īe wary of benefits, as weird as that sounds. When you are hot, cool yourself? How does that save all sentient beings? They can't even read Zen texts like Changsha's dialogue because there isn't enough religion in Zen teachings. These sorts want to talk about meditation as a means of liberation, turning meditation into a kind of mental slavery. ![]() Some of these people troll the forum, hoping that by repeating their doctrines and talking about their prayers these prayers and doctrines will somehow be fulfilled It's a terrible fate, full of frustration and hopelessness, and anger. Most are torturing themselves with religious shame or religious desire. People who come into this forum angry at Zen are angry because they are suffering from religion. ![]() The monk said, "This learner does not understand."Ĭhangsha said, "When you are hot, you cool yourself when you are cold, you warm yourself."Įwk ? note: Let us face facts.
